Karl, no I'm not talking about the pinbank yet. I am talking about the
popularity counter. Forget the pinbank for a minute. We need to establish if
there is a cancel pulse being developed properly in the mech during the
cycle. don't confuse her yet. the cancel pulse should occur as the record is
clamped and just about the time the needle sets down. this pulse will
similtaneously fire the coil in the popularity counter, advancing the
appropriate selection wheel, AND fire the correct side plunger in the
pinbank contact block to move the selection lever back to the center
postion. both coils are in parallel in the circuit. this pulse is developed
from a set of contacts which mometarily makes contact as the mech cycles.
now as the mech cycles out of play after the song they make conact again
only there is another set of contacts which open and should keep the mech
from cancelling again and accumulating another hit to the popularity meter.
there should only be one pulse of the popularity meter and it should happen
about the time the needle hits the record. it is routed throught the
reversing switches (far left set of contacts) to cancel the correct side. If
she doesn't have a cancel pulse at the correct time from the mech cycle, no
amount of fiddling with the pinbank will help get this cancelling on its
own, so don't get her started on that yet. so jackie specifically, does the
plunger in the popularity counter fire about the time the needle hits the
record? if not, specifically when? you mentioned it "fires after the song"
and this would lead me to believe you have some real contact problems.
misajusted clutches can also cause cancelling issues as there is a certain
amount of travel required in the switch stack to get a good pulse. I'm
beginning to think the tech that worked on this got the mech mixed up and
this "continuous play" was a hastly way to get it working. please let us
know what you find jackie. once this point is straightened out will move to
the pinbank. regards, justin
