Well, the only thing that changes from one side of the record
to the other is which finger hits the selection lever.  You
might want to check the contacts on the selection finger/reset
block on the side of the carriage and make sure they're all clean.
An easy way to ascertain if it's an electrical problem or a
mechanical binding problem is to loosen the mounting screws
for the motor and remove the drive chain.  If the motor still
stalls it's obviously electrical.  If it turns happily away
then the transfer arm might be binding.  Turn the sprocket
wheel manually and see if you feel resistance.
