The glass pentodes have an internal shield so it makes no difference.

Rick,
It is my understanding that it makes no difference in most cases--Someone
who knows more, please correct this if it's wrong. The metal tube, in most
cases has the metal connected to ground, thus shielding it from outside
interference, and also shielding anything on the outside from being inter
feared with--
I usually attempt to go with the markings on the amp, or schematic. If it
has the number marked 6SJ7/6SJ7G ( or GB) either is usable. If it just says
6SJ7, I prefer to use a meal tube. Ron Rich

  Hi all,
Is there a reason for using a metal vs glass envelope tube? In this case, a
6sj7 in the ami b amp. I need to replace it (this one is metal) and want to
buy the correct one. Thank you, Rick.
