Dave, there were hundreds of this model in use for over twenty years, but that was over fifty years ago. Expecting reliability of this vintage is compared to purchasing an automobile of this age.
$1,500.00 is a low price for a well restored 1700. I would question the quality of the workmanship at this price. The last one we sold brought $5,500.00. Wes

Subject: [Jukebox-list] Wurlitzer 1954 model 1700
I have the opportunity to acquire a 1954 Wurlitzer 1700 that is in working order. The only issue being the lights don't work. I have not investigated this problem as of yet but don't anticipate it being a big issue.
The purchase price is $1,500 Canadian. I currently own two Wurlitzers (an Americana II and and Americana III). Can anyone please tell me if these are a reliable jukebox and if the price seems reasonable.
Thanks!
Dave McCannell
