Even a 45 machine can potentially destroy records.I once had a Rockola 490  
that the index adjustment was off.A  record jammed going back in and it  
proceeded to spin the record carrier with great power.I was lucky.It was a vinyl  45 
 and thin so it was flexible.After a couple  of loud noises it went back down 
in just as I was about to pull  the door switch.It didn't destroy any other 
records.Didn't even break the record  that jammed.Sure sounded like it was 
breaking it.Just scratched it real  good.Strange.I can imagine a 78 playing 
Rockola going through a carriage full of  irreplaceable records while the owner 
watches in horror.I'm glad there were  no  records in the Rockola I didn't have 
better copies of.
