I accepted the challenge once to correct Aireon,s bad habit. After observing the action for a long time, I discovered the cause of the record breaking. The problem was that the turntable was still spinning when it rotated to a vertical position. I wired in a relay that charged a heavy capacitor that switched to the motor circuit when the record was finished. This acted as a dynamic brake and stopped the turntable dead in its tracks. Hence no more record trashing. If anyone is interested in this circuit, just contact me. Wes

The Fiesta I once had had a little lever that 'kicked" the vertically-standing disk out onto the turntable, then the turntable would pivot to the horizontal position where the tone arm wold move over. If the reocrd wasn't kicked out all the way and became stuck halfway in the rack, the rotating turntable would snap the record in half.
