This is where the Seeburg M100-A really shines.  It has many 
safeties and lockouts to make sure that it doesn't damage a
record, and if a record is damaged, that the damaged record 
does not cause others to be damaged.  For instance, there's
a gate that closes at the bottom of the ramp after the
record is returned to the rack.  If the record is not properly
seated in the rack, the gate won't close and the mechanism
cycles again to re-seat it.  The transfer arm is spring
loaded so that if the record is jammed in the transfer cycle
it's unlikely to get broken, and if the record isn't 
clamped to the turntable properly the mechanism will try
to place it back into the rack.  These are just some of
the checks that take place in the record transfer process.
Quite a remarkable accomplishment in electro-mechanical
logic.  My knowledge of 45 Seeburgs is limited, but I'm
pretty sure that some of these were eliminated with the
advent of the M100-B
