Don't feel bad.  I have the sheet music for "Don't Be Cruel" but
I can't read it either!  :-)

Schematics represent w things are connected electrically, and may not 
look at all like the physical layout if the item.  Lines represent wires 
or connections.  Where lines cross, if there is a dot that means that 
they are electrically connected.  A little tunnel or bump in one line 
means not connected.

The parts are often drawn to represent their internal structure and 
won't look like the parts themselves.  Resistors are a zigzag line that 
symbolizes a long path for the current to traverse.  Capacitors are two 
parallel lines with a gap in between.  Coils look like springs. 
Switches look kind of like the old knife-blade switches like in 
Frankenstein movies.
