[Jukebox-list] Tempo 1 Cartridge-Help please

The amp in the MONO Tempo 1 was designed to be used with a GE VRII magnetic
cartridge, so an NP/AC should provide adequate output from the amp. Make
sure that the two channels from the cartridge are connected IN PHASE (hot to
hot, ground to ground, i.e. red to white and green to black, if memory
serves). Also be sure that the speaker selector switch on the amp is set to
the "local" or "phono only" position to give maximum output to the speaker.
If the amp is working properly, a ceramic cartridge will overload the input
stage producing very loud, distorted sound.
When you took the amp back to your rebuilder, did he use his speakers and
volume control, or yours from your jukebox. If he used his, there could
still be a problem in your volume control or speakers.

Hello everyone,

I need your help here. I have a Tempo 1 mono version and I had the amp
rebuilt recently and the speakers reconed. I installed new EL-34 and
following Bill Bickers recommendation, I installed a Pickering NP/AC
magnetic cartridge. The sound is great but very low, way too low for a
jukebox. I brought the amp back to the guy who rebuilt it, he checked all
the voltages and everything was fine. We tried different ceramic cartridges,
Astatic 51, Pfansthiel P-132 and they are all louder but the sound is not as
good (in my impression).

Is there something wrong with my Pickering NP/AC cartrdige ? I soldered the
small clips while they were on the cartridge leads, do you think I might
have damaged the cartridge ? It works, but is way too low.

Should I order a new NP/AC just to test a different one ? Or should I just
install a ceramic ?

Your help or advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Bye :-)
Francois
