Okay, I knew that Dr. Know-it-all had written about this item recently as
a "Feature Article", I found it in the Sept. 2006 of Always Jukin'.
Apparently, the Seeburg literature of the time did not call it a "teardrop"
speaker, it was referred to as the "Mirror Speaker"
He describes it thusly:
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
"The speaker gets its name from the blue mirrors used in abundance on the
front and sides. The upper part of the front has three rows of the mirror
squares going clear around the sides and front. There is also a single row
of mirror squares going down the sides of the cabinet toward the rear,
behind the metal trim strips.
The lower front center also has a row of mirror squares. Tehse have an
individual letter in each square, which spells out "Seeburg".
The speaker grille is especially pretty. Blue grille cloth is used, with
chrome-plated metal in front of the cloth stamped to the shape of a musical
(clef) note, with ... wavy lines to the sides of the (clef)."
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
So, looking at the auction picture, it looks like it has two rows of mirror
squares along the rear edges, and a brass or gold-plated grille ornament. But,
it should be noted that there were three different models of the large
Teardrop, so maybe there were trim differences as the product evolved. The
blue grille cloth appears to be correct, however.
