If the gripper arm does not move, it may be just "gummed up" with dried
lubricant. You may want to get some penetrating oil (I personally do
not like WD-40, but others differ) and squirt some on the "joints" (places
where two moving pieces meet, either sliding or pivoting). Let it soak in,
put some more on, and then see if it will move. If you look underneath the
mechanism base, you should be able to see which motor is connected to that
gear train (there will be another motor for the record carousel, and
another that is above the mechanism platform to turn the turntable.
That motor will have a knurled extension to the shaft sticking out the
back end of the motor housing, you should be able to turn it with your
fingers (maybe with a rubber glove on to get a good grip), to work it
back and forth through its cycle to get the oil moving. If this doesn't
work, you may need to disassemble the transfer mechanism! Whoopee, the
Rockola baptism-by-fire!
I checked my stash of manuals, but unfortunately I don't have a spare one
for the 437, the closest I have is a few of the big folded schematic
sheets for a 435...not sure how close that is to the 437. I do have
a copy of the 437 service manual in my "keeper" files, however.

Check the money bag and all the crevices in the cabinet for coins!
