Here are my "diagrams" to go with Ron's 'splainin....
The key points have capitals letters that are inserted into Ron's text....

Step One, trim outer insulation back, say, about 1 inch at X

Step Two, use an awl to make an oblong hole in shield at H... (bending the
wire double at HHHHHH helps in making the hole)
