In the circles that I used to float around in called these persons with a formal degree 'educated idiots'. Most were forced into this schooling by well meaning but misdirected parents.that aspired for their offspring to find a better station in life than their selves. They never could appreciate the value of logic and common sense. These are the people that would place a high wattage resistor directly against the circuit board with no air gap for convection. Wes

Jim,
I have no quarrel with higher education, only with those who KNOW, that they "know it all", and are unwilling to advance their education any more, by just listening to another view, with an open mind.
The "service person" that you describe needing that "tool kit", in my opinion, would not be what I would call a "service person"--merely a "parts changer" -- which sadly. many were/are-, as most operators can not see the value to a good "service person" and refuse to pay a good wage.
Glad you are cracking up--keep on laughing--and Happy New Year to all!! Ron Rich

You two crack me up. I didn't realize higher education was such a bad thing.
In my 18 years of factory work, I've yet to meet a maintenance/service tech
who didn't grumble when you asked them to fix something (as in ask them to
DO THEIR JOB). I think there must be a genetic flaw in these people that
predisposes them to be grouchy :). If a service person ever became a jukebox
design engineer, there would be a "tool kit" in each machine. It would hold
smoked cigarettes, gum wrappers, used matches, and coffee cups to throw on
the floor of the machine, nail files to booger up all the contacts, and a
small roll of tin foil to wrap around blown fuses. Oh yeah, almost forgot
the tin cup to hold all the screws they remove and never put back. Oh yeah,
and a place to throw all the covers and back doors :-).

Ron, the chances that a service person becoming a design engineer are
only two; slim and none. Wes

Wes,
I agree 150% with that statement !! But only to give the "devil his due",
engineers are not taught that in school--they must learn it in OJT--which
some do--others don't--

Ron, my contention is if the engineers considered the service people
initially, a lot of complaints would be unnecessary. Wes
