First, don't run a large wire from the Tormat plate to a cold water
pipe or a copperweld stake in the ground.  This won't help. :-)

Connecting the Tormat bottom plate electrically to circuit common,
such as the shield of the cable from the Tormat, however, is a good
idea.  The readout pulse is relatively weak.  By grounding the bottom
plate you reduce noise pickup which can lead to false triggering
of the selector.
