It's a spiral abrasion of the disk surface caused by
transfer-arm type record changers as the record rubs
on the record rack as it's lifted and rotated out of
and back into the record rack.

This is a different phenomenon, caused by machines which
require inordinate pressure to activate the reject
switch. As the tone arm moves across the record, it
begins to encounter resistance from the reject switch,
which puts the groove wall under added strain pushing
the stylus against this mechanical resistance. In
apprearance it resembles cue burn, but like you say
it occurs at the end of the groove not the start.
