Thank you all for the advice. I will inspect these switches.
To clarify my issue, the record is not making it out of the carousel.
At the precise moment when an arm should "launch" to push the record up to the
needle the machine binds down on the selected pin until the motor runs
out of torque.

It will do this no matter which side of the record it should be
playing, and this problem started one day after I was cleaning records
and pushing the carousel around by hand. I would think if it were
switch failure, you would have this problem with one side selections
but not the other?  After all what are the odds of both switches
failing at the same time.

Unrelated question.
Why can I not find a needle cartridge anywhere for the 1800? Anyone
have a source? Three places I have looked say "out of stock"
