[Jukebox-list] 222 scan twice & stop with a twist

This is probably a Ron question??  Out of state friend called to say his 222 acting strangely, his description....makes a selection, plays, returns record, scans twice and stops (normal). Makes another selection, scans twice, stops. no play. Make another selection, scans twice, stops, no play. Etc Etc. Now here is the twist part, if he shuts the machine off and on, then makes a selection, it will go play that selection, return the record scan twice and stop, and then same thing all over again.  My question is does this problem seen to be geared more to weak tube or pulse amp? Naturally i wont be able to perform any tests on it until i drive out to his place. Just trying to figure out what i should take with me.
