Thanks to all who replied on this.  From my experience with
antique phonographs, pot metal has always referred to a
specific alloy (the composition I don't know from memory)
which decomposes rather rapidly (over a few decades) and
flakes apart.  The tone arms on many Columbia Graphonolas
and Victor Orthophonic Victrolas in the late 20s were made
on pot metal and many of those machines now are unplayable
without extensive metalworking.  Glad to know that the
same fate doesn't await the AMIs.
