Ron, way back in the late thirties Seeburg made some arcade games,
like Chicken Sam, Shoot the bear, Shoot the Coon and such. All used photo
tubes and thryatrons. The gas tube was a 2A4G. This was a predecessor of the
2050, with a 2.5 volt filament. Even then Guardian made the stepping
switches. It is assumed that the Guardian engineers insisted on gas relay
tubes, probably because no contact wear were associated with these. Once you
have been indoctrinated in a particular mind set, it is extremely hard to
break out. Witness the fact it is almost impossible to curtail the ingestion
of nutrients. Wes

Wes,
That leads to another interesting (to me, anyway) question. Do you know
why Seeburg insisted on using a tube rather than the "relay" everyone else
used? Ron Rich
