tubes and thryatrons. The gas tube was a 2A4G. This was a predecessor of the

switches. It is assumed that the Guardian engineers insisted on gas relay
tubes, probably because no contact wear were associated with these. Once you
have been indoctrinated in a particular mind set, it is extremely hard to
break out. Witness the fact it is almost impossible to curtail the ingestion

That leads to another interesting (to me, anyway) question. Do you know
why Seeburg insisted on using a tube rather than the "relay" everyone else
