You aren't obligated to read every post to any mailing
list.  I subscribe to a half dozen mailing lists and
never read more than about 1/4 of the posts sent to them.
That's what the Subject: line and "d" (or <DEL>) key are
for.  Tangential topics may be considered noise; they
are also considered, by some, as social interaction
amongst like-minded (at least on some topics) colleagues.
