With the pot remote, they needed to extend a low-level audio signal
which meant shielded wire and the possibility of hum and noise pickup.
It also rendered the jukebox inoperative if the wire was cut.
The motorized style eliminated all of those problems and was easier
for most operators to deal with. Another big advantage was that one
could now control the volume from the box itself as well as multiple
remote locations.
With stereo, the wiring for extending the potentiometer became even
more complex, another driving factor. I think the 222 was among the
last of the Seeburgs to extend the control itself.
