Dont worry about the swirls, they are mostly inaudiable.
On tight or bent dividers the problem is worse. You can get 2 for each play
of a record - one on the outward move to the turntable, one in the inward.
The commercial records will have been played 100s of times, your home
collection will never accumulate enough swirls to worry you.
Like Wes says, it was made to make money, not pamper records. If you are
concerned, buy an NSM or Seeburg.
It should not really be an issue.
That tone arm has been in used since 1963, and if set up to 5 grams will NOT
wear your records more than anything else. All other things need to be
correctly set up i.e. tone arm cables may need replacing, make sure magnetic
trip switch isnt magnetising the tone arm inwards. Chech that all the record
dividers are have equal gaps, and the stopping switches ensure the records
stop AT THE TOP correctly.
I have a JBM 200 (1964) and actually removed the rear dividers on the
carousel (the ones you cant see without removing the mech). I dont get any
swirls, ever, and this was done 20 years ago and its never ever dropped or
mishandled a record, so I dont actually think they are necessary!
I have serviced 100s of Rowes - they have decent Shure cartridges and will
wear your records far less than Rock Olas and Wurlies with ceramics. You
have been mis informed.

Nigel, UK

I guess it's too bad there weren't felt sides for that rack. It just might
save the records.
