Ron, this would be a different case if the wipers moved 'hot'.
I used step switches in my scoreboard design to power 100 watt lamps in the
Darlington version and a few football scoreboards. I used power relays to
minimize the current on the wipers. The one in Darlington consumed 125 KW.
We had to install 5 tons of AC in the control house to prevent the breakers
from tripping.. This ain't no BS. Wes

I have, only on a couple of occasions, where it was obvious that someone
had sprayed something on/in there that turned to a varnish like substance.
