Except that movie studios don't call up operators, they go
to the prop department and tell the guy "We need a juke box
on Stage 12." This is the same guy who provides the
furniture, glassware, dart boards, telephones, etc., that
are used to dress the set. Frequently, set decorators will
spend a lot of time and effort one those things, giving
very specific instructions as to what style furniture
they want, and oh, by the way, a juke box, too. Since most
studios don't have budgets to acquire new jukeboxes, they
pull out one that they bought for some Sandra Dee movie or
episode of Dobie Gillis back in the 50s. Either that, or
the set decorator doesn't know his history, and he specifies
a Wurlitzer 1015 for a diner in the 50s.
