Going original is restoration. Building a hot rod is
not restoration, it's customizing. Of course if there
is a original defect or a safety issue, like adding
hydraulic brakes to a '37 Ford or replacing a selenium
rectifier with a silicon diode/bridge in a jukebox or
a radio, that is considered ok in a restoration. Even
judges won't take points off for adding hydraulic
brakes at a big-time car show.

To restore is to put it back the way it was.

There is an analogy likened to the restoration of
antique automobiles. Some will opt for a ground up
restoration ala 'original' while others will
go the whole nine yards and drop in a state of are new
engine and running gear, with air conditioning, all
power goodies and a new brake system. In this case
who is right? Wes
