I would suggest that you not ground any thing that was not "factory" grounded. The "safest" thing, in my opinion, is to install a GFI curcuit. Ron Rich

I decided that while I was installing a new ballast that had to be grounded
in my Seeburg DS-160, I would go ahead and ground the rest of the machine to
make it more electrically safe. I installed a grounded three prong cord on
the TSU and tightened the grounding wire to one of the main power
transformer screws. Everything was fine. I then added a ground wire from
the ballast casing to a screw and lock washer on the back door frame.
Everything seemed fine. I decided to ground the rest of the machine as
well, and put a ground wire from the back door frame to one of the screws
that holds the tormat in place. This should ground the tormat, base
casting, mech, pop meter, etc...From this screw, I connected a short wire to
the back part of the steel top cabinet which should have then grounded
everything else...top frame, elec. selector, key casting, etc... Then I
turned the machine on and made a few selections. The first two made a few
pops here and there, the third started a slight buzzing sound, and upon the
fourth record starting play the machine made a loud pop and squealing. The
mech has just been washed and cleaned, and was working fine on my floor with
only the first two grounds installed. After putting the mech back into the
machine and adding the last two grounds, the problem occured. Is there
something wrong with grounding these parts? How should this be done, if at
all? I'm lost! It also seemed to be picking up noise when I rubbed against
some of the steel parts and screws. Ground induced noise of some sort...any
suggestions???
Thanks,
Josh Tabor
