The gray box has nothing whatsoever to do with credit.  That is the 
responsibility of the black box.

All the credit system does is to unlock the selection system when 
credit is established.  Without credit, a selection cannot be 
made.  There is no other relationship between the two, except that 
the credit function and selection function is housed within the black box.

I would suspect an interaction between the DBV wiring, the DCC 24 VAC 
supply, the tormat sense loop connection to the DCC (check for 
corrosion or a bad ground), and the regulated power supplies.

Since you have it at home, I would seriously consider just unplugging 
the pricing programmer to put the box on free play.
