I've never seen one of these in person, but I don't think the
knob and the ferris wheel are directly attached (after all, why
would you need that big wheel/pulley in back if it wasn't to
turn that assembly? I think that turning the knob closes a
circuit that starts the ferris wheel turning until it reaches
the number selected, then it stops. The "selection found"
switch is what the chain is rotating, probably some type of
dual-wiper assembly.

The pneumatics *run* the thing! Remember, at this point
Seeburg was mainly a player piano and orchestration
company -- those things are all pneumatic. Take a look
at the overhead shot of the turntable and tone arm area.
See all those pneumatic actuators? Compressed air logic
circuits at their finest! :-)
