[Jukebox-list] overlooking the obvious

Rick, if you try to write down everything that can malfunction on a
juke, the memo will have more pages and words than War and Peace. I
seriously doubt that you will ever forget your experience with this juke. If
you cannot learn how a juke works, you will have to rely on trouble shooting
charts that were written when the juke was new, not thirty years later when
unheard things happen on virgin boxes. Wes

Subject: [Jukebox-list] overlooking the obvious

I had been working on this Topaz off and on for a couple months. I had even
posted some requests for help regarding selection problems and what i had
thought to be an issue with the red box. Ron and Tony were both kind enough
to offer suggestions but still to no avail I could not get a handle on this
problem. I was getting so worked up over it that I actually had to walk away
from it for a couple days. Well the long and short of it is this. The last
time that I had pulled the PPC out (again) to check it out i noticed that
the input cable for the tormat had gotten caught on the fluorescent bulb
socket. I caught it before i pulled it out completely. On closer inspection
i noticed that the center conductor had broke off at the base of the
connector. But it was so close to the plug that at first glance it appeared
to be fine. I unsoldered the old piece of wire, dressed out the end and
resoldered and Voila, makes selections perfectly now. I sat back for a
minute listening to it play and i started to laugh at myself thinking how
silly i was for getting mad before at this machine. I also wrote this all
down in my notes in case i ever get another one. I'm sure the veterans have
seen and heard this all before but i just wanted to share my experience with
you all. Thanks to everyone on this list who shares juke knowledge. I guess
the Topaz wont be retiring in my shop after all.

Rick
