this weekend (see past list from Glen) I don't know much about them but am
hoping it is not as "touchy" as the Statesman? It sure looks cool!!! I
love the cabinet! Thanks for any thoughts you may have,
Well, it was the last 160-play Seeburg to have the Tormat Electrical
Selector system (i.e. you still push a letter and number button combo to
make your selection, rather than the three digit combo on the keypad of the
LS-3), so in my opinion, that's a plus. Style appreciation is in the eye of
the beholder, ain't it! The model before (the LS-1) had a sort-of-cool
moving display that pulled album covers past a window on a little gear-track
setup (this often is broken, sadly), as well as those back-lit color panels
along the lower front. The LS-2 just has that gentle blue glow and big red
emblem in the upper right for eye-appeal. I'm away from my manuals, so
can't check, but did this model have the later cartridge with wedge-styli?
Given the problems with repro T-needles these days, that would also be a
plus, I guess, although there are some bad wedge repros out there too.
I think Dr. Know-it-all has complained that these are not the easiest
mechanisms to work on, given their low-down and reversed position in the
cabinet. My cousin has a LS-1 she has been trying to get me to work on, but
I haven't had time to make the trip to San Luis Obispo yet! I suppose I'll
find out.
