[Jukebox-list] 7868 tubes

Hi,
Ive got a JBM (year after the JAL).
I had my amp re-built with 6V6's The bases had to be changed to accommodate
the valves. They've been in 15 years now and the sound is absolutely
wonderful.
It was a far better decision than to keep 7868's. They seem to split around
the pins very easily, due to the all glass design.
They (6v6's) are dirt cheap and still available new also.

JC,
I have not had a lot of experience with this tube, but it has been my
unfortunate experience that, either the output transformers that were used,
were weak, or the tubes, when old, appear to ruin the transformers--Just my
findings--hopefully other people have had better luck--I would like other
opinions ! Ron Rich

I'm sure I'll find it.Got a local place that sells electronic parts.Just
they close at 5 and are closed for the holiday and I just ordered a bunch of
caps and stuff from MCM before I got into this.Since Ron says they're a
troublemaker I'll change them in the LPC1 pulse amps too.

Now I got a new problem.When I got the AMI/Rowe JAL I made note that 1
output tube was broken,a 7868.When I opened my Victory Glass Catalog I just
about
cried.$85 for 1 tube!!!!!
That's more than n.o.s. 6973s are going for!!!!Now I'm sorry I bought it
considering the work it needs.I hope Vern Tisdale's price is better and all
of
the remaining ones are good. You wouldn't happen to have a used on lying
around
would you?
