Dave those colored speckled finishes were started with the Ami F. On the E
they used a decal grain finish much like Seeburgs of that vintage. Same
durability issues, most are painted over now, but that's not how they left
the factory.

Yes, they were painted in several colors. Sort of a speckle-
finish paint that was a popular industrial finish in the 1950s.
