Hi Wes, thanks for the info. Yes the rectifier has
been replaced. my guess is that the problem lies with
the opening of the transfer arm. If this has been run
unlubed for many years, possibly it has become worn in
its housing. The action does appear a bit sloppy. My
machine originally came from South Africa and was in a
poor state. It might not help that at some point in
its life the record arm has been broken in two and
repaired with some kind of epoxy glue.
