[Jukebox-list] Molex-ish connectors

Wes,
I am not sure that it cost less, at that time--they needed to purchase a flock of the crimpers, and crimp one wire at a time. Soldering a whole set of wires using a solder pot had to be faster--Perhaps, the parts cost less?? Don't know ! Ron Rich

Ron, c'mon you know that on a production line its more economical to
crimp than solder. And when it comes to cost (the bottom line) at any
production facility (except when the government is involved) economy rules
supreme over consideration of the lowly mechanic. Witness the complexity of
all new gadgets. Most are throw away. I believe you were indoctrinated by
the manufacturers and not allowed to think for yourself. I know I was until
I liberated myself over thirty years ago and started marching to my own
drummer. BTW, I also have one of those 'expensive' crimpers.Wes

Wes,
I agree that soldered connections are usually more reliable, and I much
prefer the older ,"round","Amphonel" (SP?) type plugs. However, in the case
of these connectors, crimp connections (if made using the correct tool) are
just as reliable, and they have the advantage of better strain relief, due
to the fact that the wires are not constrained at the junction. (at least
that was the "selling point" for the connectors--I'm not sure, but I don't
think cost was a factor, when you consider all factors). Ron Rich

Why do you conform to a cost saving mode just to sacrifice reliability? Wes

Wes,
I have the correct crimper for that pin--was VERY costly, way back when--Ron
