[Jukebox-list] Speaker ground

Hi Jay,
I am somewhat confused --nothing new for me--
In the Seeburg "hideaways" when they did not use a "main speaker" with a field coil; all they did was install a big (25-50w?) resistor with approximately the same resistance as the field coil (5200 ohms if I recall correctly),"B+" to ground, and connect the low z speakers to the "RS" tap (also low z).
My confusion is in the fact that I can't envision how your circuit duplicates the above--also, don't know why your great drawing gets "messed-up" when I reply--

More like...
+OUTPUT------------+----------/\/\/\/\/-------
| 50 to 100 ohm | /
| -/ test
/ | speaker
\ -\ or headphones
/ 8-ohm | \
\ power res. |
/ |
\ |
-OUTPUT------------+--------------------------
The 8-ohm power resistor takes the place of the jukebox speaker. The 50
to 100 ohm resistor reduces the voltage applied to the test speaker so
that it plays at reduced volume without loading the amplifier excessively.

The transformer has inductance and when the current is suddenly removed
each half-cycle of the audio, the collapsing magnetic field can induce
high voltages. A speaker load causes the transformer to work as an AC
voltage converter more than an open-circuited inductor.
