hi joey and ron, i'm going to try and reply to both of your posts together.
ron, not all of the 3w1 backplates have the holes drilled and tapped for the
marquee. in fact, only about 1 in 10 i've seen have the holes, joey's
suggestion of adhesive tape to attach new repros is a good idea, it was used
to make a series of repros where they just screenprinted the lettering on
flat aluminum. the original screws were really odd, like 6-32 x 1/4", any
longer would break the coin entry glass. joey, the text on the original
plates i've seen was stamped into the plate, as in with a large press and
die. the metal was not plated but had the apprearance of slightly polished
stainless steel. although the plates were dirty with diner grease and
warehouse grime, they weren't oxidized so i believe the orignals were
stainless. when you said the letters were engraved, it implies they used a
cutting tool to route out the letters. this was only done on one of the more
recent reporductions. they did fill the recesses in with paint, the orignals
i've had were faded, but assuming the colors were originally royal blue and
crimson red. justin
