[Jukebox-list] Update-Seeburg TSU5 question

Well...

Per everyone's suggestions,
-I tested the R514 resistor and it seems within the tolerances.
-I replaced the 6X4 and OA2's
-I found a bad solder joint on one of the resistor/sap junctions I made
earlier and redid it
-checked the points on the add/subtract

Fired it up and it played one record. ONE.

It is now stuck in a continuous cycle where it picks a record up and puts it
back instantly. My chart says to check the Autospeed unit contacts, but I
don't have one hooked up.

Any thoughts where to go from here?

Thanks-
Chris

Chris,
The ASU-1, stands for "autospeed unit" and yea, if it's the tube type, it
should not be in an AY model. If it's the TASU type, it's fine.
The .01 at 1400 is the one across the scan control points, and is almost
never bad. It usually breaks off at the solder joint(s). Like I said, look
at the service manual, and adjust that unit to spec--it will stop the buzz.

The album unit I was referring to was the ASU1 album speed unit which I
have
been warned about. I can see how that would generate a lot of heat.

Yeah, buzzing is bad. It was not in this state for long. I don't want to
hunt down a transformer.

As for the RSCU, correct, I do not have this option on it. I have replaced
all 3 in that section, the .01 1400v seems like a real oddball. I'll start
testing the resistors.

Thanks!
Chris

Chris,
First of all, what the heck is an "album unit"? Second, the "solenoids
buzzing" is bad. If you do not have an RCSU, I suspect that the "scan
control solenoid" is what you are hearing--check the adjustment per the
service manual--hint-- be sure that the .01 cap is still connected across
the contact points. As for your selection problems, sounds like you may have
a resistor out of tolerance. Most likely suspects are the 56k 2w and or, the
one in the pulse amp that connects to the .05 cap, that you changed. Ron

Hi all-

Finally getting to put together my Seeburg AY. The amp is recapped and
sounding great, but I'm still having problems with the selector unit.

I have recapped this as well-and at least I don't feel so bad that it didn't
work right away. It was only good for 1 or 2 selections before the rebuild.

It does the scan twice and stop. I went through the troubleshooting and got
to section "M" where you jumper A & B while scanning to make it select. It
does, and it ejects properly too.

What I have noticed is that I also hear the solenoids buzzing when it hits
the home position. I can make this stop by pulling the J501 mechanism plug.

The 12AX7 on the pulse amp is fresh and known working, and the OA2's are
also purple. I have also disconnected the album unit.

I'm suspecting I have maybe a couple of problems. Any thoughts where to
turn first?

Thanks in advance-
Chris
