I saw this behavior on an M100-A pickup which I bought as a
spare for my machine.  On closer examination, I discovered
that someone had filled the headshell with silicon
bathroom caulking!  It had zero compliance, so any
imperfection in the record surface would send it flying.
And, of course, it sounded like hell.
