[Jukebox-list] rockola 1432 index elevator assembly

Can someone please tell me how the index elevator assembly is raised and lowered to make a selection?  I assume that it interacts with the elevator lift assembly but I can't see how,  I am missing the counter index spring off the index elevator is this the cause?  This is my first restoration so your input is greatly appreciated.
