Jackie,
My diffuser was also badly cracked in the middle - it's caused by it
sagging (and the weight of the green anodised features that screw to it)
over the years. Seems like there is not enough support for the middle
section. And yes what was white was a honey colour.
So, I had one newly remade in a milky acrylic cut to the same dimensions
and shape as the original. A signwriter pasted over the blackout film in
the same shape so the light could shine up and onto the two green
anodised plates that sit on the diffuser.
That way I got a white and black diffuser - just like new. Make sure
that all the screws to hold it in place align - as these provide the
only support to the centre - and even that's not enough in my opinion.
