Only if you drop them, demagnetize them...or if the tiny disc where 
the magnet shows gets tiny iron fillings and this can reduce the 
sound quality. This point is directly under the bottom of the stylus 
where it swivels in the thin blue holder.

Try cleaning that area with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip, or - if you 
have a microscope, examine it for iron filing and try to remove them.

A dental pick works very well, just make sure it is NOT magnetized - 
I can't see anywhere that a magnet would be a good idea near these 
pickups!
