Joey? I know the song very well but I never knew who did it.

Around here, the two best-known versions were by the Irish group Them (with a
young Van Morrison, who wrote the song, doing vocals), and a little later by 
Shadows of Knight (a Chicago-area band). I think that Them's one charted higher
locally (hey, that doesn't sound too grammatical, does it?)...
