Jukeboxes, although they frequently have fewer circuits than
pinball machines, are usually much more sophisticated as
servo systems in general. I say this not out of disrespect
for pinball machines - I have three Gottliebs myself. But most
logic operations in pinball machines are simple freestanding
1 or 0 operations. Ball hits drop target, drop target falls,
point is scored, process complete. Jukeboxes have to track
with precision the movements of objects in physical space
with a much greater facility than pinball machines do.
The pinball machine doesn't care if it's the ball hitting
the target or your finger hitting it. It usually doesn't
care if a physical impossibility takes place - a pulse to
a kicking rubber at the bottom of a game at the same time
as a pulse to a pop bumper at the top of the game. Juke
boxes have very low tolerances for physical impossibilities
in their operation. You really can't scan the record rack
and play a record at the same time without dire consequences.

Not that I'm aware of. There are sites with some tips
for specific problems, but most end-to-end tutorials are
in book form. The prices are reasonable when you
consider the amount of knowledge you gain from reading
them. And, of course, there's this list as well. I've
been working on jukeboxes since my junior year of high
school (and our president then was Gerald Ford, so it's
been a few years now) and I still learn something useful
here nearly every day, especially from the guys who do
this work for a living.
