Jackie,

Try this with the power off. If you hold the basket so that it doesn't 
turn and then press the selection finger in the direction it would go 
when up against the raised selection pin and if it is really quiet then 
you should hear a microswitch click over. The microswitch is noticeable 
on mine because there is an oil filled damper attached to the blade. 
What is supposed to happen is that the microswitch fires a reversing 
solenoid. The direction of the mechanism reverses and because it is 
restrained it can't go backwards so what happens is that one of the two 
arms raises through the hole in the baseplate loading the record. The 
damping on the micro is supposed to maintain the reverse operation for 
long enough to load the record.

I'm sure that there are going to be people round here who are appalled 
by my description but hey, it works for me. I should explain that my 
manual is a English translation of the original Deutche Wurlitzer manual.
