Jackie,

I have a Lyric with a mech that is similar if not identical and it 
certainly makes a noticeable noise. It might even be intended that the 
noise makes the customer hurry up and finish selecting the record.

Of course it is all debateable how loud is too loud but why not make the 
other part of the selection and see if it goes away. Who knows it may be 
working fine.
