[Jukebox-list] 50 strips

This one was the first one I'd ever seen... I got it at a garage sale
(miracles DO still happen), and when he pulled it out I couldn't figure out
exactly what it was, how it fit into the Wurlitzer scheme. The manual
describes it as "a model suitable for locations with limited floor space",
where the 51 is described as a model for "locations with no floor space".

Anyway, I'd really appreciate any info you have on the strips. Any
possibility you could send a picture? How thick are they? Are they solid
wood, or layers of veneer? I'm trying to figure out if I should steam-bend
some new strips, or if I should build them up with layers of veneer some
how. I'm also trying to figure out if they should be glued or nailed to the
cabinet--it's hard to tell what the last "restorer" did when they modified
the machine.

One last thing--the orange trim... there were only a few flecks of paint
left after the old "restoration"--did I get the color about right?

Thanks for your help!

Alan

The model 50 is a sleeper...rare and pretty. Probably the rarest of the
countertops, together with the 51 - the 81 would only come in third for
rarity (but this is debatable).

I went to see Ed Jones in Iowa once and he had THREE model 50 in his shop.
"Bet you never seen three of these before!" he said. "No, but I have two in
my shop!" I said.
So much for bragging. They were both very near mint original machines, and I
still have one.

The strips are mahogany or walnut (I have to check) and they are glued.
