[Jukebox-list] Tormat selection

Hi Mike, when Seeburg built[these control centers they were not
concerned about burn outs. This included all components including
transformers. There are so many windings it was not practical to fuse all
windings. This is why there are so many defective transformers out there. It
is impossible to select a fuse that will more than one component in case a
winding shares multiple components.
I have spent many years perfecting circuits that will protect all
components. Because of this fact, I have been branded as a 'butcher'. Be
that may be true, I do not try to my expertise to purists. The work I do is
very complicated and costly. I only do this work on the boxes we sell
because I am not trying to impress anyone and this is the only we can
guarantee our work.
I use no tubes in my rebuilds and use a lot of solid state pieces. We
have been doing this kind of work for over thirty years and have very few
complaints.
I do have a price schedule in case someone likes my work. It is very
expensive. The price will depend on how the customer likes the options
offered. The most expensive would with coin and remote capability. The
least expensive would be a 'bare bones' model with no coin or remote
capability. This is our most popular conversion for home use. Wes .

Wes,
Thanks for clarifying this situation. It looks like the solid state
2050's are now a thing of the past, and we'll have to stick with our
tubes (unless we want to do a major modification of the circuit as
you've described).
My question to you is: do you recommend adding additional fuses to any
parts of the standard Seeburg tormat receiver? I've heard that it's
common for the 6X4 to short out, and fry the power transformer (which
are becoming quite costly to replace). Is it good to put another fuse in
line for the transformer? You've mention in your note that "all coils
have burn out protection". Where are these coils, and what amperage
fuses do you recommend?
Thanks for your expert opinion.
Mike

John, I am not the one that designed the solid state replacement for
the 2050. It was Daniel Zavaro.
What I do in my rebuilds is replace the pulse amplifier with relay
operated by an SCR. For this to work I change the power supply to
negative ground. The stepper tube is also replaced with a relay and
certain circuit changes. I do not use any tubes in my changes. The 6X4
tube is replaced with a silicon diode The 0A2 is replaced with a 150 V
zener diode.
All coils have burn out protection. We do not try to sell these
conversions. We use them in all the Seeburgs we sell. Wes
