Thanks Ron...I pulled the mech out to the service position and it 
looks like the safety plunger is not going into the magazine slot on 
the "bad" slots...it is hitting the magazine separator. On the ones 
that will play, like V8, the safety plunger is not in the center of 
the magazine slot but at one edge. Also the tormat sliding contact on 
the front row of tormat contact rivets is not resting in the center of 
the rivet but at one edge...seems like this may be misadjusted? I 
could not see any adjustment to get the contact finger toward the 
center of the rivet.
None of the mech parts were removed from the mech shelf...I just 
removed that whole assembly as one unit still attached to the shelf.
