Dave, Is it "crackel paint" or "splatter paint" ? If the splatter type, you can just "splatter" some "mud" on the smooth surfaces prior to painting with a gloss---( I'm real good at making messes with paint--not too good a painter tho---) Ron Rich

My problem is that there are places, like the top, that are
worn smooth from years of functioning as an ersatz counter
top, and several big scrapes on the sides. I think I'm
going to have to bite the bullet and repaint it. Anyway,
the way things are going with my spare time, I'll probably
get to postpone that decision for a couple more years.
The nice thing is like Bob said, being basically a box, I
can set it on any side so at least I don't have to fight
gravity.
